Annotation by Anton Kazantsev on the article A. Trevisan, I. Zacharias, Q. Liu, M. Yang, J. Mascarenhas «Circular economy and digital technologies: a review of the current research streams»
The article raises the question of current and actual research in the digital and circular economy. The authors review contemporary works that deal with modern technologies and the relationship with the economy. They manage to identify several keywords in modern research on the digital economy: research on digital transformation and business, and finally, questions on sustainable development and smart cities.
Several scientific methods are used in their work. For example, it was required to initially highlight studies that are used in specific areas of research, which allow the selection and analysis of a wide range of articles to find examples in specific areas of research. The authors used the exclusion criteria to select relevant articles for which the Authors selected technical articles on Algorithms, Optimization, Modeling, and Simulation.
The main mainstream in the modern article can be called the issues related to the discussion of the interconnections of digital technologies, the circular economy and Industry 4.0. Quite often, authors of articles turn to case study analysis, which allows them to see the integration of new technologies into modern production chains. Talking about other results, they note strong digitalization and business. At the same time, the authors talk about digital technologies for use in industrial ecosystems, for instance, in the construction and implementation of cyclical economic development strategies should be inducted, such as Big Data. Finally, scientists are turning to sustainable development. The main thesis of scientific research on this topic, based on the results of the work of the authors, is the statement that the use of digital technologies optimizes the production and consumption of resources.
To summarize, I would like to say that the article provides a good overview of current research on the topic of digital technologies and the circular economy. It allows a number of key topics, but also to notice that many questions on this topic are not sufficiently studied, which gives motivation for researchers.
