Joint Feasibility Study on China-Georgia Possible Free Trade Agreement [1]

This report is a thorough study of the potential benefits and challenges of a free trade agreement between China and Georgia. The paper begins by studying of foreign economic policy of the two countries, summarizes the bilateral economic and trade relations. The paper then continues to analyze the economic status of each country, the nature of their foreign trade, and the existing trade agreements.
The paper then moves into an in depth analysis of the trade and investment relations between China and Georgia. It first analyses the bilateral trade in goods, then analyses the trade in services, and finally the flow of investments. Then it moves towards analyzing the bilateral trade and investments per specific sectors.
The paper also investigates the existing Legal and Institutional Framework of Bilateral Trade and Economic Cooperation in terms of the Bilateral Economic Cooperation and Investment, Tourism, and Intellectual Property.
In terms of economic theory, the paper employs the Partial Equilibrium model and the General equilibrium models in order to assess Ex-ante and the ex-post impact of the elimination of tariffs. And it was found from both models that tariffs elimination will lead to an increased scale of bilateral trade; a higher trade creation effect that trade diversion effect for both countries.
The Free Trade Agreement between the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of Georgia comes into force and is implemented on January 1, 2018[2].
